Maria dos Anjos Almeida Gabriel Silva, 60, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 8, 2017. Beloved wife of 38 years to Rui; beloved mother to Michelle, Jonathan, and the late Susie; and beloved grandmother to David and Annabella. Maria is survived by her father, Antonio Correia Gabriel, her siblings Lourdes, Manuel, Jack, Adriano, Linda, Madelena, her son-in-law David Artiaga, daughter-in-law Leslie Silva, and scores of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Maria Encarnacao Almeida. Maria was born in Parada de Gonta, Portugal and settled...

Maria dos Anjos Almeida Gabriel Silva, 60, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 8, 2017. Beloved wife of 38 years to Rui; beloved mother to Michelle, Jonathan, and the late Susie; and beloved grandmother to David and Annabella. Maria is survived by her father, Antonio Correia Gabriel, her siblings Lourdes, Manuel, Jack, Adriano, Linda, Madelena, her son-in-law David Artiaga, daughter-in-law Leslie Silva, and scores of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Maria Encarnacao Almeida. Maria was born in Parada de Gonta, Portugal and settled in Elizabeth, NJ in 1970. After marrying Rui they moved to Kearny, NJ and then settled in Union, NJ. Maria was the rock of the family who kept everybody close. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and a shop-owner and will be greatly missed by many people. Her smile would light up any room. She had a way of making anyone she spoke with feel special. Her family was everything to her.
A visitation will be held at McCracken Funeral Home on Friday, August 11 from 6-9pm. There will be a mass at Our Lady of Fatima, 403 Spring St, Elizabeth, NJ on Saturday, August 12 at 10am followed by an entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
